Drummers Beat (Satans Devils MC #2) by Manda Mellett

Drummer’s Beat (Satan’s Devils #2) by Manda Mellett

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Can’t beat this Racy, raging hot read!
So. Tucson. That place literally gets flooded with the Satans Devils MC.

This is the first book I have read from Manda Mellett, courtesy of an ARC, and I’m glad I let this one jump the queue.
So. OK.
Hunky tattooed biker MC? Check.
Secret baby phenomenon? Check ( yes. Check. Just read the book)
BDSM Master/ slave dynamic explored? Check.
Virgin territory for H and h? Check. (yes. CHECK. Just READ the book)
Darkish read without getting too dark for the weak spirited and highly strung? Check
Machine guns, mayhem, murder, mommies and military? Check.Check.Check. Just keep checking…

What’s not to lurve here???

This is a great mix – like a peanut butter cup…or a salted caramel sundae…a lil bit sweet, a lot sharp, tied together as a gritty book, the second in the Satans Devils MC series (btw..who else’s Devils would they be? Just sayn…)

Can be read as a standalone, with only a few niggling throwbacks to the escapades of Book #1 which can be easily ignored by the thunderous pace of this gem.

Manda has Drum/Drummer’s male PoV of the H down pat, as unapologetic and frustratedly confused as any good MC Prez should be with the feelings he is having to handle. It’s a joy to follow the unfolding of this relationship in spite of the backdrop of guns, murder, torture, BEER, bikes and bikers.

But the kicker for me is Sam/Samantha, the strong, sexy, intelligent h of this tale. Just loved her sass and grit.

Great plot, some brilliant cringeworthy scenes ( I seriously read a few peeking out from between my fingers in horror/ embarrassment…)

This is a solid 4 star read

The only problem for Manda is the risk that with all the tropes and genres woven into this book, there may be nothing left to give in any future books to this series!

Which would be a pity as I’ve added Ms Mellett to my extremely small list of 1-click buy authors!
Woman, pull up a shelf and park your sweet butt (oops )…and the smexy scenes? All I can say is “strike a light! Good on yer, girl” – welcome to her library of congress…!!

Barbarian’s Lady by Ruby Dixon

Barbarian's Lady (Ice Planet Barbarians, #13)Barbarian’s Lady by Ruby Dixon

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The new batch of human females, now bought and freed from slavery continue to be matched up with the Sa-Khui males on Not-Hoth, the ice and snowbound world.

This is a light but juicy read from Ruby Dixon.

Best thing of all in her writing, the recognition that there is more than one ethnicity or type of beauty in the world, without making it a big deal.

This h is a big, bold (think Gwendoline Christie/ Brienne of Tarth) but with a slighty insecure undertone. Her H is the fun loving, comedian with no stomach for the sight of his own blood, hunter.  A great combo.

Great writing as usual, clear to point, kept the characters believeable, yes, even if the H is blue-skinned with horns, a tail and fangs!

I seriously can’t get enough of this series!
Solid 4 stars

DELUDE… reviewed – a Jacob Chance novel

DELUDEDELUDE by Jacob Chance

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Zachary, the secrets are out…
Voluntarily give this review from ARC received yesterday.

But am not biased, I’m gonna buy it As well – it’s that good.

This is the latest in the series from Jacob Chance and whilst the plot is a slightly darker segue from his other stories it felt like it remained true to the core of the series.

Zach has held a corrosive grudge since then, wanting to punish Kyle for robbing him of the right to commit patricide (Kyle is now an ex-cop and co-owner of a detective agency with best bud Derek) .

Zach’s stalking of Kyle and his loved ones (specifically Kyle’s woman, Janey) initially got him stabbed as Kyle defended against Zach-the-Knife (well it’s not polite to stalk Janey and attack them both one night in her apartment…)

But Zach is a true Phoenix. He slips away in the chaos, fakes his ‘death’ and undeterred, vows to continue his hate cmpaign.

So, Zach’s plans for revenge eventually land him in Boston MA, where he is all geared up to unleash holy hell…

…right up until he spots Lana, the quiet, curvy red-headed tech support at the detective agency. He switches his target and graduates from hopeless stalker to intense possessive with a mission to become the best he can be for Lana.

The book cover says it all. Dark, intense, bit Dom. All alpha. But there’s a hint of the gentle soul he has buried to protect from the horror that was his childhood.

And with that new focus all.bets.are.off.

Lana is a tech and maths sauvant and has sped through the educational system as a result. Her past involves a fiancĂ© and being jilted. But even that was done in a gasp-worthy, OMG way…So yeah.

(Even I am not putting THAT spoiler in my spoiler!!!)

For me, this is truly the best type of smexy love story:

Zach’s climb from twisted, tortured, haunted antihero to the HEA? Yep
Lana’s gentle journey with Zach leading her from insecure geek into willing submissive? Yep
Zach’s dark Dom tendencies come out to play… and get to stay? Hell yes!

The plot goes at a cracking speed.

This story is put through its paces and may feel light on content in some areas, but that is probably more due to the deadlines and limitations of indie publishing than a lack of willingness of Jacob ‘McTwisty’ Chance.

This story may genuinely have a number of very painful triggers for some readers. But never fear.
The dark scenes that there are in this book are handled with deft sensitivity that added backstory without being either stodgy or dragging out the jagged, unnecessary pain.

This was a quick read, but maybe that’s because I totally inhaled the ARC version received from the author in one ecstatic sitting.

I’m leaning back well stuffed, satisfied and replete.

Zach started out in an impossible, no-win place. This is his story, with Lana a welcome passenger on this roller-coaster ride.

4 solid stars, McTwisty. Really great story, well told!

Pixie Moon’s “Dagrinian Love” series: Alien/Human romance

So I recently started to go back to see some books I’ve had for ages but not gotten round to reading. I’ve found some gems and some stuff that is so awful I don’t know what possessed me to get it, and I’m not even going to add to my reading challenge for 2017, they’re that bad. And don’t deserve that sort of recognition. When you have the crazy masterpieces from 2016 to beat it’s going to be difficult to get a spot on the 2017 podium.

So I thought I’d start this blog on the Pixie Moon series that starts with Megan’s Alien: Dagrinian Love #1

It’s a grudging 2 stars for this one, because I want to give the writer the benefit of the doubt

But the *meh* feeling I’d had reading this may be premonition that my relationship with this series may not end well…

Let’s see how we get on.

12 January 2017

 Update – 17 April 2017

So, yeah. Still haven’t got round to reading any more of Pixie Moon’s series.

I did read the collab with Laurann Dohner who was my first indie experience (I love her stories) and I feel Pixie took away from the pace and style Laurann has. I won’t be reading any more collabs of that duo as a rule, which is a pity because I always wait for new Dohner books with fierce anticipation.

Fire in his Blood by Ruby Dixon

Fire in His Blood (Fireblood Dragon, #1)Fire in His Blood by Ruby Dixon

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Fiery new series…OK, I’ll give it time to settle

So this is the first in what is to be a new series from the inimitable Ruby Dixon of the Ice Planet Barbarians fame.

As you know I’m not that into shifters…or vampires either, so a series that has dragon shifters is going to have to be pretty awesome to hold my attention in the long run.

So this book is set in the dystopian future. The h, Claudia, Earthlng meets Kael, the H – a dragon shifter.

After being arrested for stealing she is sentenced to be sacrificed or better still tame one of the marauding double decker sized dragons that ravage the city on cycles.

Kael is a golden dragon, ripped from his homeworld along with countless others through a portl to stinky, human-infested Earth, and is slightly bonkers because of it. As are all the other dragons, especially the females- who are red coloured and pissed off as f*ck by the Earth. Hence the burning and the tearing and the killing of billions of Earthlings. Cos they’re all a bit loopy-loo.

Anyway, Kael smells and takes Claudia away and they discover each other, though English definitely is NOT his first (or preferred!) language.

Imma give this series a bit of time to see if it grows on me. Currently I’m a bit *meh* but let’s see, shall we?

A solid 3 stars for the writing (although if Ruby just put out a cover reveal and 220 blank pages with her name on it, she’d get 3 stars from me, she’s that good. Seriously.)

Rustled: The Complete TrilogyRustled: The Complete Trilogy by Natasha Stories

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Ok. I tried.
I really tried to like this set of stories.

But it never seemed to ring true to me; what with the hunky billionaire and foul mouthed ‘innocent’ then the two stories of single mothers who both hit pay dirt with fantastic no-baggage guys even though they sleep around on them during the story. Yeah. Not gonna happen as a general rule methinks.

I enjoyed the way the stories handled the LDS issues without turning into a general rant against anything religion. Am not looking for a sermon or a to religion diatribe here, and the books don’t try to deliver that.

Admittedly Natasha Stories can write a solid smexy scene with the best of them, even those tinged with sadism and predation, which was very laudable.

However, I never really got on side with the h in the books
It’s a pity but it’s 2 stars for the writing and for trying to pull this series together.

Just didn’t do it for me.

Sorry, babe!
